Chelsea move to tie Callum Hudson-Odoi to club, schedule meeting with player’s advisers

Reports in England claim Chelsea are set to offer Callum Hudson-Odoi the No 10 shirt vacated by Eden Hazard this summer in a bid to persuade him to sign a contract, with fresh talks between the board and his advisors scheduled for this month.

The 18-year-old England star has Bayern Munich, Paris St Germain and Juventus keen to sign him this summer or in January, when he will have just six months left on his deal and can then commit to a European team with only minimal compensation due to Chelsea.

There is a possibility the forward, currently injured with a ruptured Achilles, according to the Daily Mail, will consider signing a deal if the club show they are planning to build the team around him in the future.

The player and his advisers have always said the reluctance to sign was not about financial issues but concerned the lack of playing time in 2018 and his development at the club.

With Hazard leaving when a fee can be resolved between Real Madrid and Chelsea — with the Spanish club still understood to be well below Chelsea’s £100million asking price — there is an opportunity to pass the creative leadership of the team on to Hudson-Odoi.

That is the pitch Bayern made to him. They made it clear he would wear the No 10 shirt of Arjen Robben, who is leaving the club, when they made their £35m bid in January, and wanted him to play centrally as well as wide as their key creative player.

Prior to last month’s injury, Hudson-Odoi was becoming a more prominent member of Maurizio Sarri’s first team.

Though the manager’s future is in doubt, if Chelsea can demonstrate that whoever is in charge next season will make Hudson-Odoi a key figure, in terms of playing and in the financial offer, there is a possibility he would commit to a long-term deal.

However, at present there is a feeling his development would be better served at a club such as Bayern.

Real Madrid end season on sour note as Real Betis put Zinedine Zidane side to the sword (Match Report)

Real Madrid ended the 2018-19 campaign with back-to-back defeats, as they lose 2-0 at home to Real Betis.

In a poor first half, Real Madrid had the best chance to score – with Karim Benzema hitting the post.

However the visitors stepped up the tempo after the break, with Loren Moron sweeping home the opening goal on the hour mark.

Real Madrid’s chances of a fightback were then killed off with 16 minutes to go, as their former player Jese tapped home from close range.

Panic in the Real Madrid defence as a loose ball was not cleared. Junior kept his head to find Jese, to tap home from a yard out.

Lucas Torreira wants to join Boca Juniors after thriving at Emirates in his debut campaign

Lucas Torreira has revealed he wants to leave Arsenal in the future as he harbours a dream move to Boca Juniors.

The 23-year-old has been one of the Gunners’ standout players this season after thriving at the Emirates in his debut campaign in England.

Since joining from Sampdoria last summer for £26million, the Uruguayan midfielder has chipped in with two goals and five assists in 49 games.

He endeared himself to the Gunners faithful after opening his account for the club during the enthralling 4-2 victory against Tottenham in December, before netting an overhead kick winner against Huddersfield the following week.

But the ex-Pescara ace has admitted he is already thinking of his next move after speaking of his love for Argentinian outfit Boca Juniors.

While he also claimed he was in attendance at the Bernabeu to watch them beat rivals River Plate in the Copa Libertadores final.

He told Fox Sports: “One day, I want to play for Boca and wear their shirt.

“It’s a dream I have had since I was a little kid. It’s no secret, my family and friends know that.

“I was with several friends [at the Copa Libertadores final in Madrid]. I did not think I was going to suffer so much, I lived it with a lot of nerves.

“It was not as we wanted, but reaching the final is not for anyone. It was a nice show because I had never had the chance to see Boca.”

Vincent Kompany leaves Manchester City, returns to his boyhood club as player-manager

Vincent Kompany is to become the player-manager of Anderlecht after confirming his departure from Manchester City.

The Belgian centre-back will be returning to his homeland to take up the role and kick start the next phase of his career, report the Daily Mail.

Kompany played his final game for City in the FA Cup final win over Watford on Saturday and the shock announcement was made less than 24 hours later.

Kompany, 33, was unveiled by Anderlecht on their Twitter page with a clip featuring the words: ‘The Prince is back’, and ‘he’s coming home’.

His former side finished the season in sixth place and will hope a returning hero can reverse their fortunes next season.

The veteran defender first joined Anderlecht as a six-year-old and later signed his first professional contract before leaving for Hamburg. He returns having won 10 trophies in 11 years at City.

In the second part of an open letter to fans explaining his departure, he outlined the future.

‘For the next 3 years, I will take up the role of Player-Manager of RSC Anderlecht. Belgium’s finest,’ he wrote.

‘This may come as a surprise to you. It’s the most passionate yet rational decision I’ve ever made.

‘As a footballer, I was born and raised at RSC Anderlecht. Since the age of 6, I have been one with that club. A history of 34 league titles, they are second to none.

‘The background to this story… Belgian entrepreneur Marc Coucke acquired the club from the Vanden Stock family in December 2017. What followed was a post take-over set back for a club that seemed robust but proved fragile. Although the take-over triggered a positive new vibe, sporting results did not follow.

‘I stopped at their training grounds on my way to international duty last year. Just to say hello. Coucke, the chairman, and Sports Director Michael Verschueren asked my opinion regarding the difficult situation the club was in.

‘I shared my thoughts and listened to their vision for the future: ambitious, courageous and determined to get back to No 1. I offered my help, no strings attached, should they need it.

‘Later on in the season, newly appointed Technical Director Frank Arnesen joined and we organized some technical sessions on how to build a strong playing identity based on attractive, attacking football. RSCA has a tradition of having fantastic youth. You could say they have the past and the future, but struggle with the present.

‘Not so long ago, I took a call from RSC Anderlecht. Quite unexpectedly, they offered me the position of Player-Manager. Michael and Frank explained to me in detail how they saw it working in practice.

‘They had thought it through. Mr. Coucke, the owner, pledged full support: time, budget, framework, staff, facilities … I was left not only impressed, but also intrigued by this sign of confidence in me. It got me thinking.

‘The end of this season couldn’t be more memorable. I have lived the dream here. I have learned so much the last 3 years. From an incredible manager. Pep Guardiola reignited my love for the game.

‘I’ve witnessed, participated, analyzed, absorbed, studied. Man City play the football I want to play. It is the football I want to teach and to see played.

‘I have decided to take up the challenge at RSC Anderlecht. Player-Manager. I want to share my knowledge with the next purple generations. With that, I will also put a bit of Manchester in the heart of Belgium.

‘This is no goodbye. It’s a see you later. Et pour les Mauves, voor alle Anderlecht fans: tot binnenkort, à très bientôt. Love, Vincent.’

Real Madrid fans tell Zinedine Zidane who they want between Eden Hazard, Paul Pogba

Reports in Spain claim Real Madrid fans are not keen on Zinedine Zidane making a summer move for Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba.

Diario AS report that Los Blancos supporters were surveyed about who they felt was the most important transfer target, and 160,000 respondents to the Spanish outlets survey, placed the French international at the bottom of vote.

Belgian international Eden Hazard, who topped the poll, with just over 30% of the vote, has been widely tipped with a move to the Santiago Bernabeu this summer after confirming last week that he had made a decision on his future.

A move for the Chelsea man could cost €116m, despite just having one year left on his contract, but with the Stamford Bridge outfit set to begin a two year transfer ban, they will drive a hard bargain, report Football Espana.

Luka Jovic, who has also been heavily linked with a move to the Spanish capital, from Eintracht Frankfurt, finished in second place – with just over 20% – with Christian Eriksen in third, with 16%.

Ligue pair Neymar and Tanguy N’Dombele came fourth and fifth respectively, both with around 9%, with former Juventus man Pogba in last place – with just over 11%.

Napoli President aims dig at Maurizio Sarri over Juventus move to sign Chelsea boss

Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis “would not be surprised” if Maurizio Sarri joined Juventus. “Nothing surprises me after Gonzalo Higuain…”

The reports are spreading fast through several newspapers and Sportitalia that Chelsea manager Sarri has been contacted to replace Max Allegri next season, according to Football Italia.

Sportmediaset asked De Laurentiis today if he could see the ex-Napoli Coach going to take over their main rivals.

“I would not be surprised,” he answered. “Nothing surprises me after what happened with Higuain… In fact, it might be amusing.”

Sarri came very close to the Scudetto last term, but left Napoli after disagreements with President De Laurentiis and took a new role at Chelsea.

Higuain had the best season of his career at Napoli under Sarri’s orders, but left when Juventus activated the €90m release clause in his contract.

Barcelona players take decisive action on Griezmann’s imminent arrival known as Atletico Madrid fans boo forward over exit plan

Antoine Griezmann’s last game for Atletico Madrid saw him jeered by his own fans as they voiced their displeasure at his imminent departure.

The French World Cup winner posted a video message to fans in midweek thanking them for their support as he announced his plans to leave the Wanda Metropolitano in the summer.

According to Daily Mirror, with a move to Barcelona imminent, he was met with chants of “out, out, out” from visiting fans as they took on Levante in Valencia, with whistles from fans.

The news comes amid reports from Spain that the Barcelona dressing room have vetoed his transfer and are set to resist welcoming him to the club.

Sport report that Griezmann is not liked by Barcelona’s players after the way he conducted himself last summer.

The attacker angered them with his documentary labelled “The Decision” in which he announced he had opted to stay put at Atletico Madrid.

There is said to be animosity towards Griezmann from the players for a perceived lack of respect for the club caused by his public snub.

The ill-feeling from the dressing room has seen the players voice their displeasure to president Josep Maria Bartomeu in a bid to stop the move from happening.

A poll conducted by Sport saw 67% of voters disapprove of his acquisition out of 50,000.

He received boos and whistles when Atletico Madrid played at the Nou Camp this season and if the move goes through as expected he’ll have a tough task to win around not only the fans but also his new team-mates.
