Chelsea give up move for Liverpool prime target, join Barcelona in race for Serie A club’s prolific striker

Reports in England claim Chelsea have accepted defeat in the chase for RB Leipzig star Timo Werner.

The 24-year-old is a target for a number of clubs this summer, but the Blues are said to have accepted that he will be joining Liverpool.

The Blues will now focus on attempting to bring either Inter Milan’s striker Lautaro Martinez or Lyon striker Moussa Dembele into Stamford Bridge.

The Inter striker is said to be a long-term target for Barcelona, but Sport state that Chelsea are planning to smash their transfer record to meet his ÂŁ100m release clause.

Barcelona are said to be unwilling to pay that much for the Argentine international, while Manchester City are also said to be keen on the striker.
