Official: Donny van de Beek signs for Man United, reveals plan over competition with Pogba, others

Manchester United confirm signing of Donny van de Beek from Ajax on five-year deal with the option of a further year.

Van de Beek came through the ranks of the Ajax youth system, making his senior debut in 2015 and played a key role as Ajax reached the semi-finals of the Champions League in 2019.

Donny van de Beek told Manchester United’s official website: “I cannot begin to explain how incredible an opportunity it is to join a club with such an amazing history. I would like to thank everyone at Ajax, I grew up there and I will always have a special bond with the club.

“I am now ready to take the next step in my career and perform at the highest level and there is no higher standard than Manchester United. Everyone has told me how amazing the Old Trafford atmosphere is and I am looking forward to experiencing that, once it is safe for the fans to return.

“This team has some of the best midfielders in the world and I know that I can learn from them and also bring my own strengths to the group. Having spoken to the manager about his vision for this team, the direction that the club is going in is hugely exciting and I cannot wait to be a part of that.”

Kai Havertz replacement set for Bayer Leverkusen medical on Thursday

Patrik Schick will have his Bayer Leverkusen medical tomorrow after the German club agreed a €26m plus bonuses deal for the Roma striker.

The Czech international is expected to replace Chelsea-bound Kai Havertz at the Bundesliga club.

Multiple sources including Sky Sport Italia, Il Tempo and others all have the same story, which is that the deal is done.

It had been in the works for some time, but Bayer Leverkusen, according Football Italia, first had to complete the sale of Kevin Volland to AS Monaco.

Now that has been done, Schick has the all-clear to undergo a medical on Thursday.

Roma are expected to pick up circa €26m plus bonuses and a percentage of his future sell-on fee.

He was signed for €38m from Sampdoria, but made very little impact in the Giallorossi jersey.

Still only 24, he spent last season on loan at RB Leipzig, who did not activate their option to buy.

Timo Werner tells Chelsea fans about his mission at Stamford Bridge

Timo Werner has told Chelsea fans he has arrived to hit the back of the net.

The striker made the move from RB Leipzig to Stamford Bridge in a £53million deal earlier this summer and scored in Chelsea’s pre-season friendly inside just four minutes against Brighton last weekend.

Lampard has strengthened his side this summer with the likes of Hakim Ziyech, Ben Chilwell and Thiago Silva joining Werner at the club.

Ahead of Germany’s match with Spain, he told the media: “The club signed me to score goals and I didn’t go to (London) to just say, well yes, 28 goals with Leipzig last season were great.

“I’m OK with just a few goals now – I want to show what I showed in Leipzig.

“That’s why it’s more of incentive to say, yes, I want to prove it there as I did in Germany.”

Chelsea close in on Edouard Mendy as Rennes identify famous goalkeeper as replacement

Chelsea have moved a step closer to signing Edouard Mendy after Rennes made contact to replace him with Alphonse Areola.

Blues boss Frank Lampard wants Senegal international Mendy to provide competition for the inconsistent Kepa Arrizabalaga.

The Lique 1 side have reportedly informed Chelsea that they want over £30million if they are to sell Mendy.

And according to L’Equipe, Rennes have already targeted PSG stopper Areola as their prime target to replace the Chelsea transfer target.

The Frenchman, who is under contract until 2023, spent last season at Real Madrid providing back up for Thibaut Courtois.

But he has been sent back to the French champions, who already have Keylor Navas as their No1.

Areola is keen to move on as he bids to keep his place as France’s third-choice stopper for the European Championships next summer.

Inter Milan respond to N’Golo Kante speculation

Inter Milan have fiercely denied any interest in Chelsea anchorman N’Golo Kanté.

There were reports that Inter Milan manager Antonio Conte was interested in a reunion with the France international.

The reports added that Chelsea had demanded the sum of £80m to sell Kante.

But the Nerazzurri have denied the transfer reports, ruling themselves out of a move for the Chelsea midfield strongman.

According to Inter Milan sport director Piero Ausilio: “Kante is also an impossible move for Inter.”

Fabrizio Romano also quoted Ausilio as saying: “We’ve never started anything to sign Kante from Chelsea. No chance. He’s not a target.”

Barcelona have also been linked with the French World Cup winner, 29.

Former Chelsea boss explains why N’Golo Kante will be “an ideal purchase” for Inter Milan

Former Chelsea manager Claudio Ranieri describes why N’Golo Kante would be ‘an ideal purchase’ for Antonio Conte’s Inter Milan.

It was Ranieri who turned Kante into a star when they won a fairy-tale Premier League title together at Leicester City.

The midfielder then made the move to Chelsea for €36m in 2016 and is now negotiating a Serie A switch for Inter.

“He’d be an ideal purchase, certainly for the Nerazzurri, but in general for Italian football too,” Ranieri told La Gazzetta dello Sport as cited by Football Italia.

“Kante is like a perpetual motion machine, he never stops running. He’s generous, good at winning back the ball, but he also has quality, even if he’s not a creative midfielder by any means.

“It’s rare you see him misplace a pass, largely because he always maintains such concentration all the way through.”

Manchester United move to hijack Liverpool prime target

Manchester United have held talks with Liverpool target Thiago Alcantara, according to reports.

The Spaniard, 29, was one of the stars of the Champions League final as Bayern Munich beat Paris Saint-Germain 1-0.

Liverpool are favourites to land the former Barcelona midfielder, but speculation United are bidding for Thiago could both drive his asking price up and his wages too.

In fact, that is the biggest problem United have with signing him, they believe he is asking for too much cash, while the Red Devils attempt to retain a degree of structure to their wages after their nightmare with overpaid flop Alexis Sanchez.

Jurgen Klopp is keen to bring in Thiago in a bid to refresh their midfield after no notable additions the previous summer.

Former Premier League star calls these Chelsea players “The Avengers”

Chelsea have been relentless in the transfer market this summer, signing the likes of Thiago Silva and Timo Werner, with no indication they plan to stop any time soon.

If their signings are anything to go by they will be be a force to be reckoned with next season, and footy pundit Micah Richards seems to agree.

In a conversation with Jamie Carragher, Richards compared Chelsea’s new signings to Marvel superhero group The Avengers.

Speaking to Carragher, Richards exclaimed: “They look like The Avengers!”

Arsenal set to sign Chelsea fans’ prime target

Arsenal are ready to meet Brentford’s £25million valuation for winger Said Benrahma.

According to 90.mim, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is preparing a bid to take him to the Emirates.

Arsenal have already raided Brentford and taken their head of set pieces and indiviual development Andreas Georgson, along with their goal-keeping coach Inaki Cana.

Benrahma is flattered by the attention but is currently focused on his career at Brentford.

Speaking to the Mirror he said: “I was really flattered.

“But, at the same time, I am so focused about getting out of the Championship with Brentford that I do not pay too much attention, but it gives me confidence.”
